Many newcomers have years of valuable work experience that doesn't show up clearly on a U.S.-style résumé. Here's how to make it count.

  • List your job title, employer, city and country, and years worked.
  • Describe what you did with action words: "managed," "built," "trained," "served."
  • Add numbers when you can: team size, customers served, projects finished.
  • List languages you speak. It's a real skill employers value.
  • Ask about getting degrees or licenses evaluated for the U.S.
